Marriage Preparation Course
We offer training to couples who want to run the Marriage Preparation Course in their church.
Course details
This is a 1-session workshop introduces and demonstrates the HTB Marriage Preparation Course. We explore the course content, materials and ethos. We help facilitators to feel confident about using the DVDs and manuals to run a 5-week course in their church or home. Trainees are introduced to other experienced facilitators and offered practical support.
Aim
To support churches locally so that good marriage preparation is available to anyone getting married in York.
At the end of the course attendees will be:
- Familiar with the DVDs and manuals of the course.
- Understand the content and requirements of the 5 sessions.
- Able to access necessary materials.
- Given access to FMY support and a network of facilitators.
- Have the opportunity to utilise publicity and other training events via the FMY website.
Support Couple Training
Our Couples in Crisis support couples offer 4-sessions to client couples who want to strengthen their relationship. Support couples who have experienced difficult issues in their own relationship and have rebuilt their relationship are most suitable. Couples do not have to have perfect relationships! Trained couples will not become counsellors but will equipped to enable a couple struggling in their relationship to regain effective communication and learn other skills to enable them to rebuild their relationship.
Couples in Crisis: Training Course details
- 6 x 2 hour evening sessions usually fortnightly. These sessions concentrate on learning the content of our relationship skills toolkit. You will practice these skills as a couple and learn how to train another couple in their use.
- Assignment. There is a detailed written assignment which covers all elements of the training and must be completed by the end of the training. It is completed week by week after each of the sessions.
- A weekend training session which will enable you to use your own experience of relationship difficulty appropriately and effectively with a client couple to give them hope. This is also an invaluable introduction to the team and how we operate supervision. This weekend is sometimes residential but is more often offered in a central venue within York
The team is supported by regular supervision at our bi-monthly meetings.
FMY has good links with Relate, and clients who need the support of full relationship counselling are signposted appropriately to Relate or other suitable agencies by the project manager.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- Understand the relevance of and learn how to use each “relationship skill tool” to effectively to train a client couple.
- Relate your own experience of recovery from relationship crisis effectively to give hope to a client couple.
- Signpost couples to other services where relevant.
- Understand and use the administration processes for Couples in Crisis e.g. understanding initial assessment forms and using evaluation forms.
